The School Curriculum is, as you would expect, exceptionally important to our school, our children and their development in the broadest sense. We aim to ensure that all children maximise their potential, achieve the highest academic results possible whilst ensuring that they develop to be well rounded, confident children who have developed the ability to learn to learn and therefore take ownership of their own learning and development.
We have a bespoke curriculum that promotes positive attitudes to learning for all pupils. It is a topic led, contextual, child focused curriculum encompassing progressive skills throughout all areas. The curriculum seamlessly merges statutory knowledge and understanding with a wider ‘real – life’ context to deliver consistently high outcomes throughout. The topics / themes are relevant, purposeful and enjoyable and are developed through the interests of the children.
Our curriculum reflects the social, historical and geographical features unique to the location of the school and seeks to enrich the learning of pupils by developing links with the local business and cultural community.
Emphasis is placed on using the locality and outdoor classrooms to enhance pupil engagement and nurture an understanding of environmental issues.
The key curriculum drivers (values) for our school, Creativity and Curiosity; Independence; Respect and Cooperation, thread through our planning, teaching and learning across the whole school, ensuring that our ethos is consistent and progressive from Reception to Year 6. These values underpin British society and as such, we feel that they play an integral role in shaping our curriculum and approach to life at Ashley Primary.
Extracurricular activities play an important role in promoting development and self esteem by affording pupils the opportunity to work cooperatively and express their aesthetic and physical skills.
