Our Rational at Ashley Primary School

‘In Physical Education our pupils will develop their physical competence and confidence, when developing their fundamental movement skills, applying these through a broad and balanced curriculum.

Our Pupils will be provided with opportunities to be competitive, passionate and face up to different challenges as individuals and through groups and teams to achieve their maximum potential.’

PE and Sports Funding

As you may be aware the government have allocated a dedicated sum of money to be spent upon improving PE and sports provision in schools. Outlined below is how we intend to allocate our PE and Sports Funding here at Ashley Primary School from September 2013 -July 2014.

 PE and Sport Provision

 

After consulting with staff, parents and children It is our aim to allocate our funding in the following areas:

 

To buy into the South Tyneside Service Level agreement. Service level agreement includes:

  • ½  day School Development meeting
  • Subject leader development modules
  • 6 hours of individual support
  • Programme of 6 sport/health related training courses
  • Discounted CPD opportunities
  • I x 6 week block of coaching
  • 40% discount on additional centrally sourced coaching provision
  • 3x new flagship school events
  • A newly deigned KS1 schedule of events
  • 3x sport’s taster days-new and exciting sports and activities

To purchase a new whole school scheme of work to support The New National Curriculum 2014 This involves:

  • The purchase and implementation of the ‘Real PE’ scheme of work and resources- focusing upon agility, balance and co-ordination as dictated in New National Curriculum 2014.
  • The PE- coordinator to attend initial  ‘Real  PE’  training and trialling of scheme of work in one year group this academic year (2013-2014)
  • INSET day dedicated to training of Sport’s Coach, Teaching Staff and Teaching assistants in Autumn 2014 to implement and deliver effectively the new scheme. Training to be provided by Leslie Doherty national trainer

To buy into Mortimer Cluster Primary Transition and Primary Gifted and Talented Project The project includes:·         Organisation of 6 cluster events to be based at MCC (whole class involvement)

·           Support for  level 1 School Games Events

·         Young leaders from MCC to deliver one term block of after school coaching (C4L)

·         Support for  Bronze Ambassadors

·           Invite to be part of MCC’s new Health and Wellbeing pilot project.

·           10 spaces for year 5 /6 Gifted and Talented students on a weekly football coaching session at MCC

·           10 spaces for year 5 / 6 Gifted and Talented students on a weekly netball coaching session at MCC

·          10 spaces for year 5 / 6 Gifted and Talented students on a term long trampoline coaching session at MCC

·          10 spaces for year 5 / 6 Gifted and Talented students on a term long athletics coaching session at MCC

·            20 spaces on a 2 day holiday camp at MCC in October Half term

·           20 spaces on a 2 day holiday camp at MCC in Feb or May half term

To provide more extra curricular activities with a PE/Sports focus

 

 

We intend to provide :

  • A dedicated Key Stage One extra curricular breakfast club to run 1hour per week for 30 weeks. Year groups will be invited to attend upon a rota basis and the extra curricular activity focus will be decided upon after consultation with the School Council, children and parents.
  • A dedicated Key Stage Two One extra curricular breakfast club to run 1hour per week for 30 weeks. Year groups will be invited to attend upon a rota basis and the extra curricular activity focus will be decided upon after consultation with the School council, children and parents.
  • Both clubs will be run by qualified coaches.
  • Netball coaching for the Y6 netball team.

To provide cover staff to  release teachers/PE Co-ordinator for professional development in PE and sport as well as curriculum planning and resourcing This will cover:

  • Up to 2 days cover days per half term for class teachers, teaching assistants or PE co-ordinator to attend CPD opportunities linked to improving our PE and sport’s provision in school.
  • To release the PE-coordinator for dedicated PPA duties  related to  the PE and Sport’s Funding

To provide additional swimming lessons for those pupils unable to swim 25m by the end of Key Stage 2 This will entail:

  • Paying for transport, pool hire and a swimming teacher for Year 6 pupils who are unable to swim 25m in the Summer Term.
